Having been unveiled to motoring world at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, Ford fans are increasingly excited about the release of the new Ford Fiesta ST which is expected to go on-sale just in time for the release of the 62 registration mark in September of this year. So what is it that everyone is excited about with Ford’s new small car release? Well pretty much everything really, from the design to the features and the technology to the performance.

Starting with the exterior of the car, a range of significant modifications has been introduced to all the ST to stand apart from previous models. Most noticeable of the changes is likely to be the all new honeycomb grill taken from the Ford Focus, also the ST badge is provided with every vehicle as standard. The sleek and sporty look is apparent with the rear bumper diffuser with its twin exhausts, while this addition shows Ford’s intention to manufacture affordable, high performance cars, the look combines sporty and subtlety perfectly. The 2012 ST has new improved suspension which has been lowered and widened wheel arches to accommodate the 17” alloy wheels, also included is a new body kit which has been designed to look like that of the World Rally Championship Fiesta competition car.

The new engine in the Fiesta ST is a 1.6 litre EcoBoost, with direct fuel injection. The achievable break horsepower of the vehicle is a very swift 180bhp this blows the current Fiesta ST out of the water, providing 30bhp more than the 2.0 litre 150bhp non-turbo injection engine. Demonstrating Ford’s intentions in the performance car market, the ST is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard which will have a 0-62 mph speed of a very impressive sub-seven seconds; this is a full one second quicker than the current model. The top speed reached by this new EcoBoost engine is 136mph. With the car being manufactured to target different markets across the world, particularly North America and Europe, Ford ensures that the ST is as environmentally friendly as possible in order to appeal to consumers in various countries, as a result carbon emissions are a low as 140 g / km

One the inside of the vehicle, Ford have provided coloured courtesy lights, a Sony CD player replaces the original Ford stereo and Recaro bucket seats add to the WRC look and feel.

The new Ford Fiesta ST owes, a lot to the recently unveiled 2012 Ford Focus in terms of features provided. These are visible with the design of the dashboard to Ti-VCT valve timing. Low pressure turbocharging has also added something extra to the EcoBoost engine. Another handy optional feature is the rear-parking camera. This technology has been designed to show in the rear view mirror when parking the car to help direct the Fiesta in tricky parking situations, common in most multi-storey car parks.

Offer much-more than the standard hatch, the future is certainly bright for Fiesta lovers.

Still ford insist on under powering their hot hatches year after year.

The first ST was massivly unpowered and the 2.0 engine was useless, the Fiesta Zetec S again underpowered.

Again they are 20bhp behind the the competitors and im just hoping everything is not optional, if they make the recaros optional for a silly price i wont be buying one.
